We have a request for a discussion of abortion! Soooo here we go!
Okay, so again I respect everyone's views. Because I do, in this case, see both sides... however I am indeed pro-choice.
A woman should have control over her body, and if you are impregnated by, let's say, rape, would you want that child to have to live with that? Or that woman having to remember that whenever she looks at the child?
And if that woman is pro-life, than she can also keep the baby. Pro-choice is also, I think, the best way to please everyone.
Because I don't know much on this topic, I can't post much... but I would love to hear everyone's opinions.
Remember that I respect all of you, so please respect me!

The argument everyone jumps to is rape... It is a good one, I say, but we must look at not only the point of view of the mother, but also the child. When a pregnant women dies, isn't it considered a tragedy? I mean, of course anyone dying is a tragedy, but don't people always make it clear if someone is pregnant if they are killed? And this is whether she was in the first or third trimester. Of course, the whole debate is in when something becomes a human being. While it is scientific fact to say that the second the two make contact, the cells being made are human cells, this is obviously not the answer to an argument. We lose thousands of cells a day. With abortion I see the killing of potential. Not potential to become the president or do something important (although there were some famous people in history who were born under circumstances that would be reasons for a woman to abort), but the potentialto be conscious. In 9 months that baby will wake up and begin thinking and being aware (more or less), as if he/she was just awakening from a sleep.
Every night we go to sleep and our consciousness is shut off for the most part, so in a way being aborted is a bit like dying in your sleep, you don't know what's coming nor do you have a chance to care or react. Try and remember the period of time before you were born, try and imagine that simply not ending. That non-feeling of not-thinking and simply not-being. Now, if you are religious, then you believe that there will be an afterlife for the baby, but if you're religious, abortion is usually considered bad.
A woman should have control over her body, but is the baby part of her body? It is a separate being, at least, it will be. If you do not abort and the birth goes correctly, then that baby will enjoy (or not enjoy!) an entire life. Think about your entire life that is yet to come and what you have already experienced and imagine taking that away from something that might be able to experience something like it. Some of you might say you wouldn't want to make someone go through what you've had to, but if that were honestly true, then you would have killed yourself. The child will have to live through something horrible (in the case of rape), but EVERYONE DOES. We all go through hardships, and would you give up all of the good aspects of your life to get rid of the bad ones? In some cases, I suppose it's true. I suppose in special cases abortion might be alright, and that's only if you know the baby wouldn't survive long or have bad parts of their life overcome the good parts.
Yes, the woman will have to deal with remembering that, but there is also a certain joy from having a child, and the potential of consciousness should out-weigh the possible sorrow of the mother. The child will have to know that he/she was never meant to be, but a child that's a surprise to two loving parents is not considered bad. Like I said, I'm guessing there are some special cases... My cousin is adopted, and I don't know if it would've been possible for the mother in Guatemala to have gotten an abortion, but our entire family loves him. Adoption is an option!
I am not adopted, but from what i have heard from TV and those that are orphans, it sucks. Also many of the women looking for abortions do not have the means or perhaps the love to extend to the child. I believe in pro-life, but it is primarily the woman's choice. I believe that if we vote on it, women should be the only voters, and my position as a male doesn't matter.
Also when people jump to "rape" they normally dont know that the statistic of women coming for an abortion because of rape is less than 15% (i dont know the actual statistic, but i think it may be around 2%)
Also, I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that being adopted "sucks." One of my friends and her sister are adopted, and their parents are lovely, as are they, and they are healthy and happy. I also know of several people who have children who are adopted from foreign countries, such as China or, as Fishy said, Guatemala, where their birth parents were, in one way or another, not fit to keep the child, and they are also happy, not to mention extremely cute ;)
Sooo, as we have come to the conclusion, it may be best to chose choice... (chose choice, that's a strange way of putting it). Those who are Pro-Life can happily be Pro-Life, and those who decide that abortion is a better option can do so.
I am not sure about my take on this, as I am still young and have not experienced much of the world.
